I’m still not 100% sold on Nanoha’s new movie look, but am slowly warming up to it.

I like the new mechanical-looking end on Raising Heart, but the added extention coming off the head looks out of place. Also the addition of blue and white to Raising Heart’s pink and gold color scheme don’t match that well. It matches Nanoha more, but not Raising Heart.

As for the new look for the barrier jacket, I like that it has more of that “armor” feel to it, while retaining the general seifuku look. I also like that the movie barrier jacket has more of the Nanoha A’s touch to it with the black gloves, black trim, and that additional layer underneath the “jacket” part. I was surprised they removed Nanoha’s ribbon, considering that it was such a prominent part of every version we’ve seen of her barrier jacket up until now. The new golden triangular cross-shaped broach doesn’t look too shabby actually, but like Raising Heart, will take some getting used to. What I don’t like about Nanoha’s new look are her sleeves on her wrists. They look bulky and awkward there, and almost look like they’d inhibit her movement. Barrier jackets are essentially armor, but her wrists look too armored and robotic. It’s like I’m looking at Subaru with her Revolver Knuckle.

In the end, Nanoha is still Nanoha, and any blank looks are because I’m so used to seeing the previous barrier jackets. Any the apprehension I have about this newly redesigned barrier jacket will most likely fade once I see Nanoha in action in the movie. So looking forward to this movie!

What about Fate? I need to see a better image of Bardiche, but Fate looks pretty much unchanged.
