The pains from heat waves and PVC

Summer and figures don’t mix.

For some reason Northern California decided to get the heat waves going now, in the middle of May, instead of a few months from now in July and August. To make matters worse, the air conditioning felt like breaking down–conveniently right before the weekend. Last year, I boxed up about half of my figures because of the positioning of my room. I have 2 windows that catch the sun directly at sunrise and partially at sunset, so unfortunately my room tends to be much warmer than others. :( So I boxed up a little under half of my collection (2 aren’t pictures in the above photo) this evening.

With temperatures the last 3 days being about 97, 101 (with a 6 hour power outage in the evening), and 101, and the next few days looking like 102, 99, and 95, I might as well get this out of the way now. As much fun as summer is (camping, baseball, free time for RPGs), it definitely has its downside. I have cut back drastically on my figure purchases this year so I do have less stuff to deal with, but the summer months look pretty stacked for me with a bunch of Nanoha stuff coming out.

And I just got Alter’s Reinforce figure in the mail today too… _|-|O…

How I wish I was living in San Francisco again.

  1. Both Kyokos and the KGNE Haruka don’t look like they’d be leaners… why box them up?

  2. Having sunlight pointing at your figures really is not the best thing to ever happen. But luckily it’s only during sunrise and not throughout the whole day. Heat is always the enemy of figures but you are quite lucky to even have air-con. I on the other hand battle through the summer with a fan!

  3. @DQ: Really only 2-3 of those figures are “potential leaners,” but heat doesn’t only cause leaning. In some cases it can cause discoloration. Granted the temperatures in my room will never reach the extremes, higher than usual temperatures over extended periods of time are not good. Better safe than sorry. I’d rather avoid problems now instead of having to figure out how to fix them later. I am the only person who looks at my collection, so I don’t mind fewer around.

@Adun: My condolences! Even with the A/C, I have 2 fans going too. Very true about direct sunlight, and I’m lucky that isn’t the problem. However, with the positioning of my windows, I get sun most of the day, which heats my room terribly. :(
