Well, they say that “third time’s a charm.” Season 3 has been announced with the release of the newest volume of the Zero no Tsukaima novel. I’m not sure what to think just yet considering how Futatsuki no Kishi ended. If anything, more Kugimiya Rie is a good thing (when was the last time season she didn’t have some major role going on?).
A lot of people enjoyed the first season of Zero no Tsukaima, but I wasn’t one of them. It wasn’t until close to very end that I actually started warming up to it. Too much “get to the point already.” Retrospectively, those opinions were based on the fact that at the time I didn’t know there was going to be more animated. However, I never saw Zero no Tsukaima as more than a quick and entertaining 13 episodes. Watch it. Be done with it. I know that season 1 had to introduce characters, settings, and the general plot, but it did twiddle its thumbs way too much. Enter Futatsuki no Kishi and how it started off the way I had hoped the first season would have–getting to the point. It was fun for awhile, but unlike the first season that got better over time, Futatsuki no Kishi got worse over time and culminated in one of the lousiest and anticlimactic endings I’ve seen in recent memory.
I guess it was only a matter of time before season 3 was going to get announced. There’s just too much source material not to animate more. I’m much more hesitant about this new season though. When season 2 was announced I was curious and a bit excited because season 1 ended well. But with Futatsuki no Kishi going downhill from the being and ending on a sour note, my enthusiasm for more Shana and Yuji Louise and Saito isn’t what it used to be. Unlike future seasons of Aria, Hidamari Sketch, and Haruhi, I’m on wait-and-see mode with Zero no Tsukaima. J.C. Staff is going to have to win my attention this time around. Nonetheless, the idea of more Henrietta and Siesta is quite enticing though.

@Saito: That final scene was originally supposed to bring Louise and Saito closer together… did it in the anime? Louise finally accepted her feelings and actually grew up a bit, only to have it wiped away by some stupid joke. Regardless of that ending, season 2 was a complete mishap in terms of pacing and balance. The focus changed too much and the story went in different directions. The first season was a tad better, but not by that much. Based on that alone, how can anyone go into a third season OPTIMISTIC? You can’t. After 25 episodes of mediocrity, there is no way anyone is going to suddenly think it will get better. I think most are hoping it will, but no one is holding their breath.
I’d rather be pleasantly surprised by season 3 than overly disappointed, so I’m not going into it with much expectation (or even much excitement). Based on what we’ve seen so far, the way your over-hyping yourself, and I’m sorry to say that you’re only setting yourself up for disappointment.
PLS GIVE ZNT ANOTHER CHANCE…. i just feel that season 3 will be the best season of all…. =)
well, u know.. i feel mad when most people say that season 2 didn’t turn our to be more pleasing than the 1st season. I also felt that way though… in the second to the last scene..wherein saito fought a massive 7million albion army to protect Louise her love… i expected a very lonely ending afterwards but i think since it is a comedy (softcore porn for others..heheh) light anime… they decided to eventually change the mood of the story afterwards by making a scene that seems to have no connection in d entire story (d boob joke)hehehe…. BUT BASICALLY… i expect a good 3rd season of znt… and it should be…hehehe
SOME OF MY THOUGHTS:
1) if u have znt season 2, notice the scene in the opening theme… sophie (?)(the new leader of the albion army) has a rune on her forehead…i can’t verify it.. but seems it resembles the gandalf rune in saito’s hand…
2)wiki says that sophie is one of the familiars of the void…. i just think that there is some power up there controlling sophie…. (xpect sophie to play a larger role as a villain in season 3)
3) Louise and saito getting married….heheheh…looks like so… i will be disappointed if the makers of znt will not consider this in the upcoming season
4) the dragon knight of albion that showed on the latter part of the series??..well no idea…hehehe
5) i also hope dat the makers of animation will have a guy who might be paired up for siesta (julio can be a gud choice)… …that’s all so long folks!!…
@53rg10: Same as me… I’m burned out on Louise already, so whatever they do next better grab my attention immediately.
@Darkridr: I’ll be doing the same, however, I’ll probably end up watching it all eventually just to say I did… and to (maybe) poke fun at it at a later point in time.
Season 2 wasn’t great at all, but it wasn’t horrible. I think more than anything, the ENDING was a major letdown, but most of the stuff in between was watchable and borderline entertaining. It’s just that the ending left a really bad taste in most people’s mouths.
I only plan on watching the first couple of episodes — it if doesn’t move in that amount time time, I’ll be dropping it. Season 2 was just too much of a letdown for me to invest much more time than that to this series anymore…..
I’d give her a third shot, if you know what I mean.
What’s with this week and it’s sequels news? O_o
I didn’t get as excited over the news as I did with other series. At least I’ll hope the series gets a bit more serious and actually makes Saito and Louise mature with their skills. But the ending of Futatsuki no Kishi tells us otherwise… -_-
