So I’ve been waiting for this damn game since like 2002 or 2003. Now after a number of delays, a crappy demo, and a lot of ranting, Square finally released this game in the US.
I’m more anticipating Final Fantasy III (the real one, not FFVI for the SNES) finally making it’s way to US shores after like 15 years.
IGN, being the Sony butt kissers that they are, gave it a 9.5. I’m not suprised. Anything with “Final Fantasy” tagged to the name gets highly overrated. It’s amazing though… Final Fantasy X and Final Fantasy X-2 both received 9.5’s as well. My money is on Final Fantasy XIII getting a 9.5 as well.
I have a love-hate relationship with Square-developed games and Final Fantasy. I love their RPGs to an extent, but I hate how overrated they are. Yes, Square puts out solid games for the most part, but most of it is rehash. There hasn’t been an innovative Square-developed game since probably Vagrant Story or Chrono Cross all the way back in 2000. Plus, I hate how Square continually milks the Final Fantasy franchise, especially the Final Fantasy VII franchise (e.g., Advent Children, Before Crisis, Last Order, Derge of Cerberus, etc etc etc). Final Fantasy XIII already has THREE games that will be coming out, not just the actual Final Fantasy XIII. Overkill Square, simply overkill.
I’m still waiting for my Chrono 3/Chrono Break, Square. Deliver.
Anywho, after years of waiting, we finally get a brand new Final Fantasy game that isn’t a sequel, a port, a remake, a spin-off game, or an attempt to milk the MMPORPG market. Not since Final Fantasy X came out in 2001 has there been a truly new Final Fantasy game.
I have the Collector’s Edition version pre-ordered already, which unfortunately will set me back $59.99, instead of the usual $54.99 that most “collector’s editions” go for. Game comes out next week (either Tuesday or Wednesday), so be on the look out for me ranting about the game. I’m either going to absolutely love it (probably because of the hot female lead) or absolutely hate it.
